Bio: J. Joseph McDermott has represented the 34th legislative district in the Washington state House of Representatives since his election in 2000. McDermott serves on the House Education, State Government Operations and Accountability, and Appropriations committees. His overall legislative priorities include education, elections and public disclosure, the environment and civil rights issues.
Previously, he was senior budget analyst with the Seattle School District for four years. Prior to that, he worked for Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney John Ladenburg for six years. He has taught a political science course at South Seattle Community College. Joe earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of Washington's Evans School of Public Affairs and holds a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from Gonzaga University. McDermott lives with his partner, Michael.
