Bio: In 1998, John Edwards was elected to the United States Senate, where he quickly emerged as a champion for the issues that make a difference to American families, and worked for a strong national defense and to strengthen the security of our homeland. Edwards was born in Seneca, South Carolina and raised in Robbins, North Carolina. He graduated from North Carolina State University, and then earned a law degree from the UNC Chapel Hill. For the next 20 years, he dedicated his career to representing families and children against the powerful insurance industry and their armies of lawyers. Edwards brought a positive message of change to the 2004 presidential primaries. Following the primaries, he was the Democratic candidate for vice president. He is the former director of the Center on Poverty, Work, and Opportunity at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
