Bio: Andrea Batista Schlesinger Executive director of The Drum Major Institute, originally founded by an advisor to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The institute is dedicated to finding ways to make the government and elected officials accountable, and to improve the lot of all Americans. Previously, she directed a Pew Charitable Trusts national campaign to encourage college students to discuss the future of Social Security. She has served as director of public relations for Teach for America, and was also education advisor to Bronx Borough President and mayoral candidate Fernando Ferrer.
