Wanna Speak at Take Back America?
Jun 05, 2007 at 01:59 PM by Bill ScherIt's less than two weeks until Take Back America 2007 shakes up Washington, DC. Our star-studded speaker line-up is nearly complete -- and now includes Sen. Barack Obama, Sen. John Edwards, Gov. Bill Richardson, Rep. Dennis Kucinich, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Jane Hamsher, Duncan Black, Howard Dean, Eli Pariser, Van Jones, David Sirota and more.
To make sure our agenda is the best it can be, we need one more thing: You.
Starting today, if you're registered to attend Take Back America 2007, you can organize your own speaking session at the conference. We'll promote it alongside all the other Take Back America speeches, panels, and workshops on our official online agenda, and provide you with a forum to convene fellow activists and address the issues that you choose.
How? After you register for Take Back America, just click "Self-Organize" at the top of any page on our conference website. Follow the steps, and you'll have a speaking spot at Take Back America 2007!
Is there a pressing issue that you're drawn to help address personally? Do you feel the need to drill deeper into the details of any particular policy proposal? Is there an intriguing idea that you want to share and help build with like-minded progressive activists? Would you find it valuable simply to get folks together to brainstorm and build alliances?
Whatever you feel needs to get done to turn last year's historic victories into lasting change for our progressive movement, you can organize. We'll provide the basics -- rooms, tables, chairs, white-boards, projectors and other essentials. You bring the energy and the ideas.
While Take Back America is loaded with terrific speakers, the speeches aren't the only thing that makes our conference such a great event. It's the connections that are built between progressives from across the country. It's the ideas that are shared. It's the plans that are forged for action. It's how we come together to strengthen our movement.
In the past, these bonds were forged mainly in the hallways, in the lobby and over meals at Take Back America. All of this will still take place. In addition, though, we're giving more power to you to shape this part of the conference.
So, if you want to host your own self-organizing session, don't delay! Sign up now while slots are still available. If you're not yet registered for Take Back America 2007, then register. Once you're registered, just click "Self-Organize" to add your voice, your ideas and your energy to this year's conference agenda.
In less than two weeks, thousands of progressives will convene -- in this historic year -- to chart the future course of our country. Please join us, stand up, speak out and help us chart this course together.
We can't wait to see you in Washington!
I would love to have our band play at the conference, or at the Gala. I have a blog, which is more of a digest. It gets as many as 5,000 visitors a month. I don't know the statistics of visitors who only use the RSS feed.
But my main profession is that of singer-songwriter-producer. And I think my band would be right for the task. Click my link and see what you think.
In solidarity, Julie

I would love to ask Hillary Clinton and John Edwards what they know about BILDERBERG MEETINGS and would they please share to the public at large what this group is doing.
Other than that i would speak as an individual, who has been recycling, conserving, building energy efficient homes, scrimping, maintaining impeccable credit with no debts owed and not wasting any of the earths or human resources, all my life. I would tell how i live on 30.00 a month as a caregiver to the elderly and how that is saving others from higher taxes. I would share how i tithe 90% of my veterans pension to others in need and keep barely 10%, but somehow the spirits above always watch over me. My profile shows i don't just talk but i act. If computers were around years ago i would be able to confirm my whole life has been a live of volunteerism where my motto has always been to produce 10 times more than i consume. However, i can only document the last 6 years in my profile. I try to live as if i was in africa on a 30.00 a month income like many of the world does.
I would love to come to this conference but i would have to hitchhike there and that is hard from phila pa to wash dc.
So all i can add is inspiration to others in hopes americans will change their wastefull ways.
I will be signing copies of my new book, Born to Cheat: How Bush, Cheney, Rove & Co. Broke the Rules - From the Sandlot to the White House, in the mornings all three days from about 10:30-noon in the bookstore area......
Campaign Begins to Stop Congress’ Brazen Violation of the Constitution
In letters to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid the newly formed national organization Friends of the Article V Convention declared its challenge to Congress. “The time has come to stop playing games with the U.S. Constitution and respect the rights of Americans,” said FOAVC founder and National Press Secretary Joel S. Hirschhorn, a former senior congressional staffer.
FOAVC told Pelosi and Reid that Congress has a legal obligation to call a convention and that it is initiating a national campaign to build public pressure on Congress for a convention. "The one and only requirement specified in Article V for a convention is that two-thirds of state legislatures apply for a convention. With over 500 applications from all 50 states on record with the Congress that sole requirement has been more than met. Congress has never passed any law to expand or further specify requirements for an Article V convention, meaning the language in Article V prevails,” said FOAVC.
“Congress has cheated Americans by not obeying Article V of the Constitution. Members of Congress are violating their oath of office to faithfully obey the Constitution,” said Hirschhorn, “and we must hold them accountable.”
“Members of Congress seem more effective as lawbreakers than lawmakers,” added California congressional candidate Byron De Lear and an FOAVC founder. “If Congress can silently and unilaterally ignore or veto one part of the Constitution, then it can disobey any part of it,” said De Lear.
Thomas E. Brennan, former Chief Justice, State of Michigan, and an FOAVC founder has said publicly that a convention “is necessary, desirable, and feasible.” The convention option “is to be taken seriously…it is not a joke, nor an illusion. It would bring a new, responsible dimension to American politics,” said Brennan.
“Operating outside the control of the federal government convention delegates could, like members of Congress, consider any constitutional amendments they deem necessary to address unresolved national problems – and that’s what frightens politicians,” noted Hirschhorn.
De Lear said, “Congress can’t have it both ways. Give Americans its first Article V convention or propose a constitutional amendment to remove the convention option.” FOAVC reminded Pelosi and Reid that Abraham Lincoln and Dwight D. Eisenhower supported use of the convention option. “Sadly, no current Democratic or Republican presidential candidate has done likewise, especially mavericks like Dennis Kucinich, Mike Gravel and ‘champion of the Constitution’ Ron Paul,” noted De Lear.
The non-partisan FOAVC at www.foavc.org urges Americans and state legislatures to demand that Congress obey the Constitution, respect states’ rights, and announce the first Article V convention. FOAVC does not support any specific constitutional amendment, though it invites groups advocating specific reforms that might be achieved through amendments to become Affiliate Members.
